Outdoor Education Trip Planning

We are going on our outdoor education field trip to study ecosystems on Tuesday.  Make sure that you are prepared for the trip!  First off, you need bring in your permission form.  Without the permission form, you cannot join us on the trip.  If you can't make the payment at this time, please bring the form, and we can figure out the details for the payment at a later day.

You need to be prepared to go on the trip rain or shine!  If the weather doesn't cooperate and the trip is postponed, I won't find out until the beginning of the school day.  Here is a summary of what you need to bring and wear to be prepared for a comfortable and successful day:

FOOD:

  • A healthy lunch with snacks.
  • More food that you would usually bring to school, because you will be using more energy.
  • No junk food: candy, chips, cookies, pop, etc.  This food doesn't help your body perform well.
  • Lots of water - 1-2 liters.  No other drinks - no juice boxes, sports drinks, etc.
  • Minimize packaging.  We take out all the waste we bring with us.
  • Suggestions: sandwiches, fruit, veggies, healthy granola bars, trail mix (nut free), etc.
CLOTHING:
  • Dress in layers for the weather.  Be prepared for cold and hot temperatures in the same day.
  • Good shoes or hiking boots that can be tied up and get dirty.
  • Bring extra socks.
  • Wear pants rather than shorts.  Jeans work very well.
  • Bring a rain jacket or windbreaker if the weather calls for it.
OTHERS:
  • Bring some toilet paper and a few baggies in a ziplock bag.
  • Make sure you have your backpack.
  • Wear a hat if it's sunny, and a toque if it's cold.
  • You might want to wear sunglasses.
  • If you wear it, put on sunscreen.
  • Bring binoculars if you want to.
  • No knives.
  • No electronic devices.
