Poetry Writing Assignment

Grade sevens will write a descriptive poem. This means that you will describe a place, event, object, feeling, etc.  

Grade eights will write a lyrical or narrative poem.  This means you are telling a story of an event or an experience.

Poem criteria:

• Your poem must be a minimum of 12 lines.
• Include figurative language: metaphor, simile, or personification.
• Consider how (and if) you want to use rhyme and rhythm. 
• Before you write your poem: brainstorm ideas, and consider what main idea or what feeling you are trying to have the reading experience.
