Poetry Analysis and Interpretation Assignment
- Find a poem that you would like to analyze and interpret. It should have enough length and detail to give you lots of ideas to discuss. I suggest using the lyrics to a song.
- Print a copy of your poem (or lyrics of the song you've chosen).
- Complete the 'Read a Poem' sheets to plan your work.
- Write your analysis and interpretation.
- It should be typed.
- 3-6+ paragraphs.
- Focus on:
- what is happening in the poem and what it's about
- the main idea and supporting details
- what the message of the poem is
- what evidence (excerpts from the poem) demonstrate all of this
- how the author uses figurative language (simile, metaphor, personification)
- how the author uses rhyme and rhythm
- your connections and visualization of the poem
- etc.
